Interesting way to market an IC. For that price, he should throw in the action figure.

at least a rocketing calculation...
I'm just thinking I must have enough spare parts to sell on eBay at those kind of prices to buy that Magnum PI mansion that just sold for $8 million in Hawaii.
I might have to give up my vintage computer hobby now and sell everything if I can get nearly $1500 for just a single 74160. LOL
Seriously, I paid $2 in a surplus store for the 74160 on my Mimeo last year. I feel like the antique road show...
Cheers,
Corey
In fact it´s a candidate for becomming:
Most overpriced item of the year
or at least getting some similar kind of award...
at the "This is Laughable" thread for the year 2015.....
inspecting my spareparts i just discovered 3000 bucks resting in the sorting box ... LOL
That auction is simply ridiculous. That seller must think that everybody is gullible.
I guess this character took the parts lists for the Apple One and based on the last selling price of a real Apple One assumed he should get $1500 for this relatively common chip.
I am really surprised with eBay.
This joker has the words Jobs and Woz in all his titles as well as using a likeness of Jobs in the 74160 listing and eBay does nothing to block these abusive and non-licensed implied endorsements of such auctions.
Hello IEEE-802,
there is nothing surprizing about ebay at all.....
the "security devision" is a bad joke......
the only thing ebay really bothers about is getting it´s fees.....
sales of illegal copies of high end items and stolen goods don´t really bother any guy at ebay a bit....
they only get in such cases bothered, when they look face to face at the lawyer representing a large
company, who is threatening them to sue them....
there are plenty dealers at ebay that have been prooven to cheat customers and still selling because they
generate "good profit" by paying a bunch of fees....
only if the problems get more expensive than the profit ebay starts thinking about restrictions....
don´t forget: if ebay would really act on every missbehaviour at the marketplace they would loose more than
20 % of the sales-offers and therby loose at least 20% of the profit by the fees...
thats "modern" economic....
ebay is just a symptom not the problem itself....

I wonder though, has anyone reported the listings? If not, it is unlikely eBay is searching every listing.
Zan
Hello Zan,
not this specific one....
but at least 30 to 40 other listings with serious violations to the
so called "ebay rules" ( you remember the rules you accept, when you sign in... )
in the past 2 to 4 years ago.....
2 years ago i decided to stop wasting my time with the so called "security department"....
- > first you get tossed along dozends of help pages instead of getting the form
to claim the incidence ( because ebay really does not want to get such notifications about
violations ) -> and after several attempts after you finally wasted your time and sent the
note -> you will only get automatic fast reply with big "bla bla" - in fact just a statement
that the note has been transmitted...
nothing else...
and no further feedback ....
and if you trace the committed offer you won´t see any action taken by ebay in more than 95 % !
But nobody will try to stop you from collection of own experience....
have nice time...
besides: that same seller has sold several other chips for Apple 1 replicas during the past months at
relativ reasonable prices.... ( review the list of feedbacks )
my question would be: what happened in the past weeks to make him leave this part of the universe... ?
sincerely

Speedy, I was just curious if anyone had reported the auction.
I appreciate your experience, mine has differed.
I have reported at least a dozen different auctions over the years (most in the past year and a half) and to date all but one were either pulled or modified.
The other ended shortly after I reported it, the report was not likely even looked at till long after the auction ended.
I had one auction pulled of my own last year. After I fixed the issue, it went on without a hitch (mine was a classification issue, I was new to selling and realized the issue, fixed it, done)
I often read about people complaining about eBay for many reasons, I have some of my own as well. When it comes to this kind of issue, our experiences simply differ.

I do not understand why some of the bloggers are so upset about this ebay seller. He doesn't say that Jobs or Woz are endorsing his auction. I have traded in the past with this seller from Italy with very satisfactory results.
Asking a crazy price for an item is not against any rules (it might be laughable but it's not illegal). You don't know how much someone (with more money than brains) is willing to pay for something that they want... It is part of the so called 'free market'.
Hello mi2k,
well at the one side in fact that seller has offered in the past several items serious without
demanding such outragious prices and the items have been sold....
second in the former offers he refrained from the use of that stupid action figure
and focused to the selling seriously his items without that "cheap jack" attitude...
something must have changed in the past weeks - to change that behaviour that far
from moving from serious seller to become a "cheap jack screamer"....
and at the other side it just might (upset) frustrate (might be a better word) guys like me, just because this change in behaviour
negligently leeds a bunch of ignorant "lemmings" at ebay to speculate without any idea of real value
of their apple items to jump off the same cliff demanding outragious prices..... -
and by that behaviour having influence in market driving it to stupid and outragious demands....?
... as that topic has been treated several times in the other thread "this is laughable".....

Sheesh. I know replica building is all about "authenticity" or whatever, but I think for that price I'd settle on getting a new one for $.89 from Jameco instead and spending a tiny fraction of the money I saved on some black paint and a custom sheet of rub-on decals so I could fake authentic-looking date codes for every other common-and-still-manufactured IC on the board.
Yikes, I gotta be a billionaire with all those 70's chips laying around!
