can this be done?

connecting the two with a modem!
another friend of mine got an apple and we wanna share files.
we both have acoustic couplers and a phone line.
but how do we get this all to work?

It has never occurred to me to try this as the disks are interchangeable.
You may be able to go from IIc to IIe via Printer out from IIc to Super Serial Card in IIe?
I imagine you would have to go through the Monitor program.
Anyone have a reasonable idea?

Not sure why you're going about this since Sneakernet seems possible. The hard way is to connect them serially (or over dialup) and use a free term program on either side, one of them in host mode. Or look into http://a2central.com/5339/apple2pi-refinements-continue-to-impress-early-adopters/
If you're in the same room (with two computers, two modems, and terminal software (ProTerm was the best) on each end) then you connect the two modems with a null modem phone cord.
Alternatively, there was LAN (local area network) software called AppleTalk, that came with the Apple II Workstation card, and you could use the serial port on an apple //c+ (but would need an adapter for the //c), plus the the AppleTalk dongles on each computer. The dongles show up all the time on FleaBay.
The Apple IIc Plus does not support Appletalk (no Apple //c does).
