Hello to all,
Another great prized item ?
amauget,
I don't think you understand (nod-nod, wink-wink, say-no-more).
He's not charging that amount just for the printer...
He's charging that amount for the printer AND the restoration.
Granted; the restoration took time, money, and effort on his part.
But $800.00 worth?

Yup...this IS laughable.
Steven
The price on this one inst ridicules at all... But it does have detachable sides for easier motherboard access! ::)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-IIE-A2S2064-with-2x-Disk-II-Drive-Vintage-Computer-Untested-Damaged-/331185867725?pt=US_Vintage_Computers_Mainframes&hash=item4d1c374bcd
Transwarp:
I had that one on my "Watch List" actually.
You are right that the case is absolutely destroyed, but the Motherboard
is in good condition, you can use the keys, it has two Disk II drives, and a couple of cards.
When I first looked at it I said "OH MY GOD!" , but I saw the $0.99 starting price (plus shipping)
and I said "Hmmm, nice mb, drives, cards, 99 cents. Hmmm"
That is why I didn't place it up here like I normally would.
For what parts and accessories you get out of it, it's not really bad.
Steven
That's actually how I got one of my best hauls of cards. An absolutely trashed //e - dirty, no keyboard - but a Transwarp, a Ramfactor III, a Super Serial and a couple other cards, for about $20, iirc.
On the other hand, we have the rare 0K ][+, mounted on glass, for your convenience: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-1978-Apple-II-Computer-Motherboard-Framed-on-Glass-/151288483150
It seems that after some guy started framing Apple1 boards now this misbehaviour gets popular behaviour
happening also to Apple II boards..... indicating that now even formrerly recommended sellers change mind to a behaviour that is normaly recognized only by noobs who enter the retro-computing market
and thinking to make money by treating that stuff like art paintings ( do they really believe that framing
objects raises up value that much to pay that price ??? ) And seemingly now he wants to sell the stuff just
at lower price after his expectations in raise of value have been disappointed just "to get rid of the stuff...."
Seems we just have to wait another 3 to 5 years to view the first disk controllers framed and being forced
to buy components not in the electronic store but instead at the art galery ???
I just wonder what part of the brain of that guys has been twisted up....
and the citation from Wikipedia ? Under normal conditions i never would expected such a text from that seller...
Seems he wants to enter art market and believes it to be a good idea, to be the first one with that behaviour....
speedyG
It wouldn't shock me lol.
I hope you win it; it has a lot of good parts in it. The price isn't bad at all, you cant get much cheaper than a .99 cent starting bid. I was just laughing at the case; it looks like it was run over by a dump truck lol.
whscullin,
The thing I noticed about the "Framed" II+ board
was the fact that it has no RAM on it what-so-ever.
If I am going to pay that much for a board, It had better be complete.
LOL Even if it were complete I wouldn't pay that much for it.
Steven
And now for something new...

You've just got to love it!
Steven
Even his shipping price is outrageous!
Can anybody explain what this IIGS has got to do with a LISA 128 K ????
( recalling at the end of the item titel -
except hunting for misleading search hits ??? )
seems some stupid surviving wife that hasn´t realized that the "goldrush" after S.J.´s death has passed by

that sort of transportation cost is normal....
it´s from Utah and therefor it must be shipped from John Smith´s "private heaven"....

WOW!
I will say it backwards WOW!
I will say it upside down MOM!
I am wondering if this one comes with a new car? At least the shipping is free. If I got that price, I would hand deliver this pretty much anywhere on planet earth.
Of course, I don't think this person is living on planet earth so that may account for the high price.
This is the best one I have seen in a long time and I think he is in the running for the title for this year and its only April.
But alas, the year is still young.
pfffft!!!!!!!!! Yea, that's another world beater. oh & wow.
2 offers already, I bet he gets at least 60% of what he's asking. Easy!
Yup Jay, it sure is.
P.T Barnum is rotating in his grave at Warp 2. lol
Steven
[quote=gsmcten]
You mean trans-Warp 2?
But yea; that price is up there.
Would this be considered laughable?
It's a really nice unit. The card does have every upgrade imaginable. and I like the fan & heat sink he has added. but $2000? I just don't know... seams too high.
Edit: my mistake that's not a heat sink. lol
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present the $2000 TransWarp GS card.http://www.ebay.com/itm/18-MHz-Apple-IIgs-II-gs-ROM-3-5MB-RAM-5-1V-8A-Transwarp-GS-Accelerator-32K-/161288690977?pt=US_Vintage_Computers_Mainframes&hash=item258d8e1d21
Everything else here seems to be fairly common except for the Transwarp GS card. That said, I've never seen a card go for more than a few hundred dollars US.
Nevermind - I failed to see the above post.
/fail
Well, the last couple Transwarp GS cards I saw sold for just under $500 and just under $600. Saw some 4mb Ram cards go for $100-$150 so I guess if you figure a IIgs with drives and software/manuals is worth $1200-$1400 the price is dead on!!
Never mind... this offer from Bulgaria is up there allready for more than 3 months .....
if you want to view more outraged prices - you should view his other items for sale...
lot of neat stuff - but every single piece far beyond any outragious level...
straight from the other universe....
it seems he carried out everything from the storage of the university of Sofia
as a kind of fundraising for his retirement...
lol...
From our perspective, in this country? Absolutely!
In Bulgaria? Considering that you are not "supposed" to be able to get any American computer technology there in the first place? Maybe not.
Remember one thing: A lot of malware is being created in Bulgaria.
Now I know that you probably cannot create malware for a PC on a IIgs, but the fact that he has it in the first place tells me that if he can get a IIgs, he can get an up-to-date PC.
Steven
Hello Steven,
in those days of the Apple Bulgaria was in the communistic block,
but since 1 year ago they joined the European Community...
and not everybody is happy about that....
but this items are for sure from former days and
maybe "found their way along the backyard out of the university..."
This must be the top secret Super Special Ultra Rare Holy Cow I can't believe I found it version of AppleWorks disks :O
Speedy,
Yeah. Lot's of folks are unhappy just East of you right now.
Zan,
That's the Museum Special.
Try contacting them to ask a question.
They don't talk to anyone.
All,
The broken IIe went for $51.00 this afternoon.
I didn't win it as I was not going to pay more than $45.00 for it.
Oh well.
Steven
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321377109066
I'll just leave this here.
P.S. I love the Q&A at the bottom (mainly the "A", not the "Q") I have one of those bags. Guess I need to list it for $2300 since no Classic II to put in it :O
I'm afraid this fellow is going to be very disappointed if he goes on "Pawn Stars", "American Pickers" , or "Storage Wars". There is litigation going on on "Storage Wars" about the fact that the producers were/are seeding the lockers with items that made the bidders look like they actually won something worth lots of bread.
Steven
Take a gander at this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/141162972229?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
and as if that is not enough...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/191045292807?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Now, I must admit that the second one seems to be a bit more rare, but it's not Brand New and Sealed/Never been used.
Also:
It seems that the prices for II Plus, IIe, and IIc units are for some strange reason increasing. Especially the IIe and IIc units.
Has anyone else noticed the trend?
Steven
Crazy price for ancient video games. He must be counting on some ancient video game addict(s).
That "I believe in the internet" t-shirt is hilarious. Yeah I would spend $1k on that... NOT
Yes I've noticed too Steven.
The //c prices have gotten out of hand. They are selling for around $200 for just basic units that are not in good shape and are barley tested (just a power on test). I like the //c; but it's lack of expansion slots just devalue it for me personally.
The //e prices are out there. Most of them are not selling though. I just don't see anyone anytime soon spending $400+ on a basic system that has no special expansion cards & no interesting software.
It's pretty weird when $200 for a //e system is almost common place.
It's affected my Craigslist finds; now everyone on Craigslist thinks they have a $400 computer lol.
BTW, Remember this guy:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-apple-II-computer-Apple-Fully-Functioning-/131187652197?pt=US_Vintage_Computers_Mainframes&hash=item1e8b64b665
LOL
To go with that $1500 video game...
A $200 Joystick!
The Problem is, that any guy nowadays will take a quick glance at the ridiculous 1000€+ buy-now offers for Apple Computers.
They will come up with equally ridiculous prices for themselves afterwards. Its really hard to get them back to earth
as they often have already planned what to do with the new found riches.
As i had encountered a while back:
Found on eBay: Apple IIgs in nice condition with monitor, local pickup only - 1€ Starting price
I went to the Person and offered him 120€ ... he wanted 500€ and said that 500 was only half of what he would get on eBay...
I was able to convince him that the IIGS alone was not worth that much by simply showing him the sold listings on eBay.
But he had a lot more stuff hidden in his attic... i paid 250€ for the whole lot.
The funny thing is that he would have gotten more than 250€ on eBay, had he given any details on the other Stuff.
He wanted to throw everything apart from the IIgs away... kinda strange since that was worth much more than the IIgs.
-Jonas
Mutant, Transwarp, Stynx, and All,
I know I'm getting older and more set in my ways (everyone around me says so, lol), but I would never ask someone to pay more than what a unit is actually worth.
I have a stack (literally) of IIe units and IIc units that I have been steadily buying over the last several years at less than $25.00 each (plus shipping).
Just because I clean them does not make them worth over more than what I paid for them.
Granted, making a ROM 4 IIc unit does take a little time, patience, and a little money, but that (in my opinion) does not raise the price of a IIc to the $250.00 to $400.00 level.
A IIc Plus is in it's own category of course, but again, they are not really "RARE" as some sellers on eBay would like to believe.
I think it's only going to get worse.
Steven
Yeah - the listing has changed a bit. The price has been lowered to $500 but the seller seems...out of touch.
Check out the latest Q&A (not me) - here
Whatever, not too much makes sense with that one so why should this?
Zan
I almost fell out of my chair from his response to the first question/statement. Not because it was funny, but because it was a very lame answer and speaks of someone very insecure.
"thanks for the sales lesson, professor. don't buy it, i won't lose sleep. my girlfriend is 20 years old, weighs 120lbs, is 5'10" and cleans my house. CYA"
I understand where the original question/statement comes from. In collecting, I have seen people who not as informed trying to get into a hobby get taken in and way overpay for something, I have also seen the opposite where an experienced collector will recognize an item and get it for a "song". It frustrates me a little about both, though I feel much worse for the person getting into the hobby as I think of the second one more like treasure hunting unless you deceive someone along the way (reminds me of a scene in a Johnny Depp movie where he was a book collector/evaluator/obtainer and he sorta lies in one scene to get some valuable books cheaply and make the value of others in the room appear more so his competitor cannot get a good deal on them)
Anyway, back to the reason I actually commented to this one...
There is no way Pawn Stars would be able to evaluate a system or would even contact someone who has an item on eBay to come in. The show itself has become a tourist attraction that people come in on their own with much more interesting stuff for the producers to film.
Kinda reminds me of when the Apple-1 was auctioned off in NYC almost two years ago. It made the news and Christies started forwarding me emails from people who thought they had a computer that was worth something in their closet. There was a guy who just wouldn't accept that his Vic-20 with a serial number in the 400,000's wasn't worth a fortune because he got it when they "first came out". They just don't understand that in collecting and value details matter. Something could be worth $50 vs $5000 just because it was damaged or because it was made a year later. Collectors care about the details whether we are talking computers, cars or baseball cards. Sure there are things that from a detail perspective will never be worth zero even if damaged, but are worth much more if in perfect condition.
Cheers,
Corey
All,
There are some good examples of what Corey and Zan are talking about right now up on eBay.
one of them is a "FrankenApple" purported to be an Apple II, but when you look at the interior pictures it has all the signs of being a II Plus that has been reworked and an Apple II Lid placed on it.
Even the ROMs are not original.
What tipped me off was the keyboard light mounting in the first picture.
Over all it's crazy up there right now.
I'm not sure what is causing it, or what these folks are thinking.
They must think that the regular Apple collectors/users are completely stupid.
Steven
It may have started out as an Apple II, but upgraded/modified later.
I felt the same way when I read that. He just came off as silly.
I tried to convince the $699.99 BIN/$399.99 Apple ii plus guy to sell me his computer for cheaper; reason being b/c it has a integer ROM card in it. I was willing to give him $250 for it; and mind you the interior base-plate and motherboard have *major rust/corrosion*.
The guy treated me like a louse & said he would rather keep it than sell it for that "low" of a price. Yea, like his rusty II+ is worth anything lol. He talked down to me like I didn't know what I was talking about, and that the corrosion was "normal" and that these computers have sold for "twice what hes asking".
Keep in mind this idiot is talking down to someone who has sold around 50+ Apple II+'s over the last 15 years on ebay! I think I know what they are worth! I explained to him that the computers that he says sell for twice his asking price are actually Apple II originals and that his Apple II plus would not sell for anything close to that.
He told me to "just go away".
Who wants to bet that computer will still be for sale in another 4 months?!
And another...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161309362116?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Three items down is a IIc with the exact same accessories starting at $19.00.
Transwarp: I get the same thing. They talk down to me too. They have very little knowledge and act like they are the sole source of information on Apple.
Some of them were not even born yet. lol
Steven
Eh.. Make nothing of it. Most ebayers are snot-nosed money grubbers. Let them be to wallow in frustration at not moving their wares.
Not really laughable, rather sad because my bid was late by a couple of seconds.
This item sold about 3 minutes after it was posted...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/APPLE-II-ROM-CARD-BY-APPLE-COMPUTER-UNKNOWN-CONDITION-/251536114564?pt=US_Vintage_Computing_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a90b88384
Obviously the ROM chips were installed backwards, which is consistent with the "Unknown Condition" on the description.
I hope some Applefritter member got it and not a reseller...
That happened to me with an Apple II REV 0 motherboard a year or so ago. $30 Buy it now price and it sold right before I clicked "Commit to buy".
I'm not laughing anymore. I guess I've seen too much in the DOH! thru WTF? spectrum on eBay that I've become desensitized to it all.
I've felt that way a couple times and every time I think I can no longer be surprised something else comes along to prove me wrong
Transwarp, Sean, Zan, and All:
I cannot help but think that the sellers are playing "Follow The Leader" with their pricing. Especially on IIe and IIc units. Last year you could pick up a IIe or IIc unit for $25.00 (or less) or so plus shipping. Now "Jumpin' Jesus!" the starting price for a IIe has jumped to more than $65 to $75 (or more)and a IIc starts at $50 to $60 (or greater). In the case of the IIc, it's without a power supply.
But the buyers are also partially at fault.
They do not take the time to look at the item.
They do not take the time to do any research on the item.
Some have the ever popular "I want it all and I want it now" mentality.
Because of these and other reasons, the sellers now think that this is the norm.
That they can get away with jacking up the price and the uninitiated will pay exactly what they want.
If I remember correctly; there was a II Plus up on eBay for (starting price) $850.00 with a BIN of $!500.00.
I wrote to this young fellow, you will never get someone knowledgeable to buy this unit for that price.
You should have checked the going prices for II Plus units before placing this high a starting price on it.
He wrote back that I didn't know what I was talking about.
That unit has not sold.
He has had it back up now three times.
It STILL has not sold.
And THAT my friends is why "THIS Is Laughable!"
Steven
I didn't place the link up here for the following eBay item:
(Placed this afternoon)
Apple II Plus Keyboard.
Condition: Excellent
Price: $149.00
I can but a whole II Plus unit for that!
