Cold Boot Adapter....what?

Yeah I have been watching it/them also. So I am no Apple /// expert and IF I am wrong please let me know. But the onboard ROM/bios for the Apple III is super limited; it always need to boot from floppy to bot hardware/devices. It was NOT meant to boot a hard drive. The apple III does have a profile hard drive card... I have one. but supposedly it cant just boot up wihout the floppy disk and drivers. Supposedly the cold boot card would allow a system to boot up directly without the floppy drive being used.. Thats how I remember it anyway.

No I dont think its wires and I dont think It has anything to do with  the Profile Persei, I think you could boot a SCSI HDD as well, possibly a network share. But like you mentioned it needed the ROM configured correctly.

There was a discussion on this board on the Apple /// FB group a little while ago. I think the consensus was that it would have given that function in an Apple II, and not the ///.

So here is my question. I see people have gotten the booti working in the apple iii. Is it working without a boot rom or do you need to load drivers off floppy first?

iatkos, is that little drive an SD card reader? How'd you make the case?

Verault, yes, to get the /// to boot from anything other that the internal floppy it needs an updated rom. The booting from the booti card you have seen would most likely have been using the updated ROM and SOS that I put together. Have a look here if you are interested for more info:

Thank you Rob, that is great to know. I may just install a Booti into my apple III. Could your ROM be modified so owners (like myself) of a profile /// card can auto-boot to a profile hard drive?

Looks like the ROMs are missing though.  Probably won't do much as-is.....

yeah, but if it could be gotten at a good price (easier said than done) you can burn your own roms.

Is there a dump of the ROMs?

This little drive is an Sdisk II card version 1 :-)

The 3D Printing case come from :

This emulator in his first version isn't the best choice for me ( limited file type format - Nib --> to Nic conversion, only one file at once ).

I have CFFA v1.4, CFFA 3000, FloppyEmu A_B_C, wDrive, Booti card ; all these are the best Emulator choice for the Apple II.

If you are looking for an SD card reader case,  i can recommend this one ( Unidisk style - Good choice for an external case for the CFFA v.1.x card ) here is this one  :

This is not very expensive. You have to get the 5v through the CFFA card from the IDE cable (pin20) and bring the 5v to the CF interface card.
