Airport (old) as signal booster?

If this is the wrong forum, move it please mods.
Umm, well we had an airport (old style). We got it when i got my iBook G3 in 2003. Anyways, i recently got a Linksys wireless adaptor (dont know the model number, i think they only sell one, it was 60 or 70 at walmart) and i've got this old airport sitting here.
I dont get very good connection in my room, because the router (and wireless) is at the far corner of the house, and it has to go through many walls.
So, can i somehow get my airport (not extreme) to take the signal and strengthen it? I've got a good place to plug it in (into a power outlet) that has good range of the linksys router.

Also, I only replaced my airport because it was very old, and it would drop my conectiong every couple of hours, and i couldnt get internet for about 10 minutes. This also happened to the desktop we had hardwired to the airport, when i lost connection, so did that.

You mean the Airport Base Sta

You mean the Airport Base Station? Airport refers to all Apple branded 802.11 products. Wink It's reads to me like you were jacking the iBook into the ABS and using it to route out over wireless to the main house router? If so, why not just get a (cheap now) Airport card for the iBook and do away with the adapter setup?

If you do have a card in the iBook, does it get any signal to the main router without going through the ABS?

THe G3 iBook has some decnet antenneas that run up each side of the display. It should handle WiFi as well as or better than the ABS.

Haha, i figured i didnt make

Haha, i figured i didnt make my self clear enough.
Umm, i'm talking about the apple airport base station. i already have an airport card installed in my iBook.
In my room, i have OK connectiong, most of the time i have 2 bars (out of the 4 on the airport icon), but every once in a while i'll have 3.
The main thing i guess is speed. My internet is a LOT faster when i get right next to the wireless router (duh), but when i've only got 2 bars, its significantly slower.
If i could program the now un used airport base station (i replaced it with the new linksys one) to act as a signal booster, i could then put it right on my desk next to where i have my laptop, and then i would have much better connection.

So, i guess my question is... Is it possible to program the airport base station to act as a signal booster? To pickup another WiFi signal, and then re-broadcast it.

Thanks
Peter

None of this stuff is done with any airport extreme stuff. The card and base station are old style airport.

O, and one last thing. I think i lost the code for my airport mangament program. I can still access the internet (if the airport is pluged into the modem) but if i want to change any settings via my computer i cant do that.

Nope, from what I've read it

Nope, from what I've read it won't work. The airport base station (ABS) supposedly can repeat another ABS, but not a third party router.

If you can make a wired connection from the ABS to the router, you can use the base station as an access point, but then you'll need to run cable to wherever you set up the ABS.

Have you considered trying a cantenna or a parabolic reflector to focus your router on where you use your ibook?

IIRC, only the AirPort Extreme base station can work as a repeater.
