Ihave an Apple Tam that was working fine but just developed the following problem. Upon start-up a window pops up that says The finder could not start up because the following system library could not be found:AppearanceLib.
Any advice as to how I can fix this ? I do not have any of the original software disc's that came with this machine. Thanks !Tom

common problem. Boot up with extensions off and drag your prefs folder (in your system folder) to the desktop. Then do a find for "appearance" and make sure there is a control panel, an extension, and that library. And that they are in the right folders.
No Luck, every keyboard option I have tried will not let me get past the message about the finder not being able to start up because it cannot find the system library named AppearanceLib. Should I just purchase the OS8.5 system and install it over the 8.1 ? Thanks for your help !! I'm new to the Mac System !
Hold down the shift key when the computer boots up...
Then do the above.
8.6 should run quite nicely on there, it's got quite a few more features that are worth the upgrade. If you can find a copy on eBay etc then I'd say go for it!
